About the Event

Birthscapes is inviting expectant parents to come along to a free taster (session 1) of the award winning Before Birth  course (created by Sophie Burch, founder of the Beyond Birth Collective) on Thursday 6th January at 6:30pm (GMT).

Before Birth is not a pregnancy or birth education class, instead Before Birth is a mindful group for you as an expectant parent. Before Birth provides time to focus on yourself and your baby, to connect and slow down.

You will be taken through simple self-care and relaxation techniques that are easy to implement and help support a positive mindset as well as helping to emotionally prepare you as you move forwards through your pregnancy. Focusing on your mental-wellbeing, offering virtual support, ideas and questions to build resilience, cope with and accept the challenges, learn to trust your instincts and reach out for help when needed.

Sessions use a combination of mindfulness, relaxation, self-hypnosis, and other psychotherapeutic techniques as a self help toolkit over 6 weekly sessions.

Some aspects you may be familiar with, and others not. You don’t need to have heard or tried any of this before now to find it easy to use and simple to apply to your daily life.

Before Birth ensures that you are taking time each week to connect with other parents, to connect with baby, to slow down and boost hormones which are essential to pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period, including oxytocin (the hormone of love, birth and bonding).

The weekly themes are:

1. Nurture

2. Emotions

3. Connections

4. Nourish

5. Recovery and resilience

6. Transformation and identity

What will the Taster session include?

By taking care of your own emotional wellbeing now, you are taking care of the future:

"The seeds of life are planted even before you draw your first breath, and the nine short months of life in the womb shape your health as long as you live." (Begley & Hill)

About Birthscapes:

These sessions are delivered by Katy Williams, founder of Birthscapes.Katy is a trained Occupational Therapist, mummy to a 3 year old, KG Hypnobirthing & antenatal teacher, Before & Beyond Birth Mindful Wellbeing Practitioner, Birth Trauma Practitioner, Attached at the Heart Positive Parenting Educator, Starting Solids Facilitator and Laughter Yoga Leader.

Katy is also a trainee Tree Babies Guide, Infant Massage Teacher, Grow With Me Mum & Baby Group Facilitator and Mindful Breastfeeding Supporter.

Katy experienced her own difficulties during pregnancy, birth and postpartum which coupled with her training as an Occupational Therapist and new mum led her to create Birthscapes, providing support from conception onwards, with a particular focus upon perinatal wellbeing and supporting with the transition into parenthood.

Katy says: "Following my own perinatal journey, I wanted to set up a group, drawing on my skills as an Occupational Therapist, mum and survivor of perinatal mental illness, to provide new and expectant parents with the holistic support that I wish had been available to me. When I found Sophie Burch's Beyond Birth training, I knew this was the answer and as part of the Beyond Birth Collective, I know that we are making a real difference to parents lives and to their little ones and when Sophie created Before Birth I was ecstatic to now be able to support parents in using these wonderful techniques and in providing a space for parents to connect both before and beyond birth."

If you are an expectant parent, this really could be the thing you need to find that connection and calm both with yourself and baby as well as with other parents-to-be, which is so needed with life as it is and as we move through winter.

Nurture yourself as you nurture your baby!

Warmest wishes,
