Birthscapes is running a FREE Mini Taster Course (Laughter, Love & Joy) for expectant mums / parents to attend, on 02, 09 & 16th October from 10:00-11:00 BST.
Laughter, Love and Joy focuses on boosting your happy hormones and creating a positive mindset during pregnancy and in the lead up to the birth of your baby.
Laughter, Love and Joy is led by Katy Williams, Mummy and Founder of Birthscapes, trained Occupational Therapist, Laughter Yoga Leader, Hypnobirthing & Antenatal Teacher, Before & Beyond Birth Mindful Wellbeing Practitioner, Attached at the Heart Positive Parenting Educator, 3 Step Rewind Birth Trauma Practitioner, Starting Solids Facilitator and trainee Mindful Breastfeeding Supporter & Infant Massage Teacher.
Laughter, Love and Joy sessions will draw on various aspects of my training and will include: Discussion around a related pregnancy / birth topic, Journaling, Affirmations, Laughter Yoga, Pranayama, Breathwork, Guided Relaxations and Grounding Exercises.
When we are expecting a baby, so often we find ourselves exposed to stress (external / internal) with a potential impact upon our baby's wellbeing in utero and also with the potential to affect the upcoming birth experience, therefore it is extremely important for the wellbeing of mum / parent and baby that we take steps to reduce this.
The purpose of the Laughter, Love and Joy is to take time over the three week period to connect with baby, reduce stress hormones, come together to laugh and experience real joy with other expectant parents and cultivate a sense of positivity and playfulness.
I am leading the way in introducing laughter yoga as a tool to support pregnancy, birth and postpartum wellbeing as I feel this is a key ingredient to perinatal health and positive birthing.
Studies have shown that engaging in extended periods of laughter increases hormones that are essential to the antenatal period, for birth and postpartum, including oxytocin (the hormone of love, birth, bonding and breastfeeding) and endorphins (the body's natural pain relief), amongst others, with there being a direct correlation between tension in the jaw and the pelvic floor.
Due to the release of endorphins, pregnancy-related nausea may also be reduced (with participants previously reporting this following attending a laughter yoga session).
We cannot be in our sympathetic nervous system (fear response) as well as our parasympathetic nervous system (calm response) at the same time, as such, by using laughter exercises we switch ourselves out of the stress response and into our calm state where we are then able to better prepare for and experience a positive birth.
These sessions are free of charge, though donations are welcomed.
